Who We Are
Locally Grown. Hand-Built in Maine.
Grain Surfboards began in the basement of a home minutes from the waves in York Beach, Maine. Mike LaVecchia combined his love of board sports with a passion for classic wooden boat-building techniques to create works of art for riding waves. Mike, with the help of some friends, has grown the business into a full-fledged surfboard and kit manufacturer. Our boards and kits are designed by people who surf every time there are waves, from wind-slop to groundswell. We’re not pros, we just love surfing. Our wooden surfboards are designed for people like us who love and live to surf.
Grain Surfboards was born out of a life-long love of classic wooden boats and a passion for surfing the waves of New England on wooden surfboards. Grain Surfboard shapes vary from classic, single fin longboards to our buttery twin-finned Fish. They are all beautiful and all made to surf, not just hang on the wall. We’ll always remember where we came from, and why. Our motivation is riding waves on boards hand-built using classic techniques, modern shapes and local, sustainable wood. The beauty of Grain Surfboards lies in the blend of local softwoods, the artful patterns naturally produced by the growth of the wood itself, and the love of harnessing the power of nature, even for just a fleeting moment.
