Based on a 1969 Paipo, this sweet little board has a classic outline, very little rocker and is designed to have an 8″ single fin. The narrow tail has increased thickness to add buoyancy and paddling power. Designed for large powerful waves, most people would ride this board prone, but skilled surfers have been known to surf it standing up. Put on your fins, and put all those boogie boarders to shame.
Every Grain Home Grown Surfboard kit comes with everything you need to build your own board, including machine-cut keel and frames, top and bottom planks, rail strips, fin box, glue, epoxy, fiberglass, mixing buckets, gloves, instruction manual, etc. These kits are designed to be built by anyone with the room to to do it. Previous wood working experience is not necessary.
You will need to spend some additional money, or get creative, on a “rocker table” used to eliminate stress on the framework while gluing planks to the frame. You will also need 4- 6 bar clamps and at least 25 spring clamps. Our instruction manual includes helpful hints on getting creative in terms of tool requirements.
